OnePlus has announced an upgrade to Android 12 for 4 different phones nearly simultaneously. This new roll-out involves the entire global 2020 flagship 8 series, thereby including the refreshed 8T model as well as the "main" 8 and 8 Pro releases.
The 9R, on the other hand, is an India-specific variant with a considerably different camera hump, an FHD+ display and Warp Charge 65. However, it is invovled in this new spate of updates too. Therefore, it now has a new build of OxygenOS (OOS) to install.
The phones might have had access to this latest 12 version through OnePlus' beta program; however, these OTAs are now for the general public as well. Besides the major software upgrade involved, OOS 12 officially confers the latest version of the always-on display mode called Canvas on all of the phones in question for the first time.
There is also a new 3-stage dark mode for "improved personalization"; a new first party Gallery interface and the latest version of OnePlus' Work Life Balance (2.0) feature across these devices. The OEM also indicates that its latest stable OOS 12 roll-out might fix some system and connectivity issues. Hopefully, it will not meet the same fate as with this process for the 9 and 9 Pro.
