The Last of Us 3 already has a story outline, but Naughty Dog isn't working on it yet ↺
The Last of Us 2 is only about a year old. Given the seven-year gap between the original TLOU game and its sequel, it is far too early to talk about The Last of Us 3. However, we might not have to wait seven years this time around. Lead designer Neil Druckmann appeared on the Script Apart podcast and made a surprise revelation about the game.
Druckmann said that he sat down with the game's co-writer Halley Gross and wrote a rough outline of the story. He adds that The Last of Us 3 is currently not in development. It isn't much of a surprise, considering that The Last of Us 2 is yet to receive its Factions multiplayer DLC. Furthermore, Naughty Dog could have other games in mind before thinking about TLOU3.
Druckmann also talked about 'finishing one of our major titles', which, at this point, could be anything. A new Uncharted game, maybe? Rumour has it that the original The Last of Us is all set to get a PS5 version, too. One can't help but wonder what The Last of Us 3 will have in store for us, given that TLOU2's ending left quite a few loose ends.https://www.amazon.com/Last-Us-Part-II-PlayStation-Collectors/dp/B07YBXD45K?tag=nbcnewsnet-20
