The Infinix Note 8 leaks onto Geekbench 5 as a potential Poco M2/Redmi 9 rival
Many consumers might struggle to identify Tecno as the mobile device OEM it is; despite this, it did in fact place in the top 10 among individual companies in this market for the first quarter of 2020. It has a brand called Infinix, which is by some accounts rapidly breaking into markets such as India. It may have an upcoming device that may give some newly launched low-to-mid-range products a headache soon.
It is called the Note 8 - not to be confused with the Redmi or Samsung phones of the same name, of course. Unlike these devices, it has shown up on Geekbench 5 with a much newer processor: the MT6769V/CU, or MediaTek Helio G80.
It is also now linked to 6GB of RAM and Android 10 out of the box. This leak is further cemented by a new certification from the Thai regulator NTBC for a phone of the same name and model number (X692). However, there are no reports as to how the phone looks or functions otherwise as yet.
Poco has just unveiled another 4G-only phone with very similar specs: the M2 - or Redmi 9, as it is known in other markets. Therefore, should this Infinix Note 8 come to India following its launch in Thailand (at the least), it may pose a challenge to this phone - especially if Tecno prices it right. For reference, the M2 is to be released imminently on Flipkart starting at the equivalent of ~US$150.
