Asus has launched the ExpertCenter PB64, a compact mini PC that supports up to two high-speed SSDs and offers extensive connectivity with eight USB ports. It also features a configurable port for added flexibility.

The Asus ExpertCenter PB64 is celebrating its official market launch. Measuring 175 x 175 x 44.2 millimeters, it is still a compact PC model. That said, even more compact mini-PCs are available—it remains questionable to what extent this makes a real difference, especially when the ExpertCenter PB64 is mounted to the back of a monitor via VESA. Potential buyers can and must choose between the Intel Core Ultra 7 265, Ultra 5 245, Ultra 5 235 and Ultra 5 225 . It supports up to 64 gigabytes of RAM, with two DDR5 slots available for this purpose.

The system supports not only the installation of up to two M.2 2280 SSDs, but also a 2.5-inch SSD or hard drive with a height of up to 7 millimeters. Unsurprisingly, the 2.5-inch storage device is connected via SATA, while the two M.2 2280 SSDs are each connected via four PCIe lanes. Beyond the processor, there are also certain configuration options, such as a configurable port. This can be used, for example, to provide a second Ethernet port with a maximum data transfer rate of 2.5 Gbit/s or an additional video output.

Options include USB Type-C and USB 3.2 Gen 2, among others. USB 4 also supports video output, and there are two DisplayPort 1.4 ports as well. A VGA or COM port can also be configured. Both options are likely to be useful in more specialized environments—for example, if a scale or an industrial measuring device is to be used with the ExpertCenter PB64. The version with the Intel Core Ultra 5 235, 16 gigabytes of RAM, and a 512-gigabyte SSD is priced at $1,300 Amazon offers the Core Ultra 7 265-variant for $1,600.
