The Sony WF-1000XM6 remains something of a mystery, despite first surfacing in rumours as far back as June 2024. Initially, the WF-1000XM6 was mentioned in the same breath as the WH-1000XM6 (curr. $398 on Amazon). However, the WF-1000XM6 was nowhere to be seen when the WH-1000XM6 debuted in May.
Instead, Sony quietly added references for its next pair of high-end wireless earbuds within its Sound Connect app before quickly removing them. In the intervening period, the WF-1000XM6 has surfaced on multiple regulatory body databases, including the one that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) shares publicly. While the FCC and others have been coy about the earbuds' features, they all mention the same YY2985 model number reflected in Sony's Sound Connect app.
Now, Encompass Parts has added references to the WF-1000XM6 on its website. On the one hand, the website confirms that Sony plans to offer its next WF-1000X earbuds in black and silver colour options. On the other hand, Encompass Parts reiterates that YY2985 is the model number behind the WF-1000XM6.
Moreover, the same website suggests that these replacement parts will ship on February 27, 2026. Potentially, this could just be a placeholder date. The Walkman Blog speculates that Encompass Parts could be offering an early hint about future WF-1000XM6 availability. If that is the case, then we suspect that concrete leaks will start emerging after CES 2026 wraps up on January 9.
