Sony Vaio SV-E Series
Sony’s SV-E series was introduced in Q3 2012 as a replacement for the VPC-E budget series. It consists of notebooks from 11.6 to 17.3 inch with a price range from 800 Euro to 1000 Euro depending on the configuration. The 800 euro entry level model houses a Sandy bridge processor and an on-board graphic Intel HD3000. The more expensive 1000 euro model uses a Sandy Bridge quad-core processor and mid-range AMD Radeon graphics.
Since the E series is a series of budget notebooks aiming at average consumers, it does not has the beautiful design or state-of-the-art hardware of Sony’s high end models. But the E-series still has some ace up its sleeves: Its price is comparable to other manufacturer’s mid-range laptop, while having a much better matte display and a somewhat better backlit keyboard, not to mention a timeless design which is similar to other Sony premium notebooks.
Unfortunately, being a budget series, the E-series suffers from some flaws to cut cost, including a bad cooling system, which makes the notebook very hot during heavily gaming, no graphics switchm, which makes the battery run time below average. Despite these flaws, the Sony SV-E series is still a very attractive choice for home office users who are looking for high performance from a premium laptop manufacturer at a fair price.

Sony’s refreshed Sony Vaio E fits snuggly into the current mainstream laptop market, but the computer is also what you make of it. The review unit we received is a typical budget laptop that makes a few subtle attempts to class things up. It includes a good keyboard with backlighting, a stylish exterior and an aluminum lid. If you choose, you can outfit this laptop with a quad-core processor, or Radeon 7550M discrete graphics.

Overall, performance with this laptop was solid and slightly better than average compared to other 15-inch laptops. The PCMark 07 benchmark turned in a score of 2,439, which is again slightly better than others. A bump in hard drive transfer speed, however, would have improved this score (and performance).

Sony's laptops are always more than the sum of their parts—a sense of style will do that for you. The VAIO E15 is no exception and will undoubtedly turn a lot of heads in the major electronics outlets. It's a great unit overall. Still, it would be even better if Sony offered a faster hard drive option.

Sony's Vaio line of laptops has undergone its most extensive overhaul in years, resulting in new products, such as the T series ultrabook, and revamped ones, including the new E series. Sony pays some needed attention to the lower end of the midsize laptop market, with the sharp-looking new Vaio E series.

We weren't terribly enamored with Sony's previous VAIO E Series laptop, model VPCEH1FGX, when we reviewed it back in 2011. The redesigned touch pad might trip you up, but the 2012 Sony VAIO E Series is an otherwise well-designed 15.5-inch laptop that delivers fast performance and a big software bundle for a reasonable price.

Even without the addition of a third-generation Intel processor, and the boost to processing and graphics performance that come with it, the Sony VAIO E15 (SVE15116FXS) is a strong laptop, combining slick design and solid construction with a healthy selection of hardware and software and plenty of features. Extras like webcam gesture control and a suite of premium media tools make the VAIO E15 compelling on its own, and thanks to an Ivy Bridge Intel Core i5 processor, the Sony VAIO E15 (SVE15116FXS) stands head and shoulders above other entry-level desktop replacements, replacing our previous Editors' Choice among entry-level desktop replacements, the Asus U56-BBL6.

The $699 VAIO E15 is an attractive notebook that delivers power and a compelling suite of apps to leverage its third-generation Core i5 processor. In fact, the bundled software on the E15 might be worth the price of admission in and of itself for those who know how to use it. The wrap design is unmistakably Sony, and the sound is also quite good for the price. We just wish the display were brighter and the battery lasted longer.

The Sony VAIO SVE14A15FNB is priced at Rs.55,990, which puts it up against the Asus K55VM and the Toshiba L850 in terms of pricing. The latter two feature quad-core Ivy Bridge CPUs that do really well in tasks like video encoding, so if you do a lot of that, we recommend you pick the Asus K55VM over the Sony. However, the new E-series is very good for media playback, especially due to the higher resolution screen. It’s also a bit smaller, is more portable, has a much better keyboard that’s backlit, an ambient light sensor for the display, and great design and build quality.

The Sony VAIO SVE11113FXW is certainly very affordable for a compact 11-inch laptop system but it can't shake its netbook heritage when it comes to performance. Compound this with below average battery life for a laptop of this class and it just becomes a hard to recommend system with its limited performance that coul be replaced by a tablet or spending a bit more for a more flexible laptop.

Once a popular choice for on-the-go laptop shoppers, the 11-inch laptop has fallen on hard times of late (aside from the $999 11-inch MacBook Air). With only a handful of 11-inch laptops still available, serious travelers are flocking to ultrathin 13-inch models instead. But the low price and good battery life of the Sony Vaio E keep it from being counted out.

Sony's VAIO E Series 14P has a good CPU and discrete graphics, making it a worthwhile laptop to consider if you want to do serious work, but it does have a very glossy screen, which could get irritating. Its design is interesting, but a little bulky, and Sony is the only vendor we've seen to ship keyboard overlays with some of its laptops, so this model will defintiely stand out with its purple keyboard.

Those who like the idea of owning a laptop that's as portable as a netbook but offers more graphics power will find the VAIO E Series 11 to be an attractive choice. Of course, a sub-$500 15-inch notebook is the way to go if performance is a priority. But if you want a cheap secondary PC for travel or you're heading off to school this low-cost VAIO is certainly worth a look.

AMD Radeon HD 7670M: Renamed Radeon HD 6650M and therefore still produced in 40nm.
Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.
Intel HD Graphics 4000: Processor graphics card in the high end Ivy Bridge models. Offers a different clock speed in the different CPU models (ULV to desktop quad core) and therefore a different performance.
AMD Radeon HD 7650M: Based on the same chip as the Radeon HD 6650M but with slower core clock. 480 Shader and 128 bit DDR3 interface.
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.
Intel HD Graphics 3000: Integrated graphics card in the Intel Sandy Bridge processors (Core ix-2xxx). The HD 3000 is the faster (internally GT2 called) version with 12 Execution Units (EUs).
AMD Radeon HD 7340: Integrated processor graphics card in the 2nd generation of Zacate APUs (e.g., E2-1800). Due to Turbo Core, the graphics card can clock from 523 to 680 MHz and is based on the same core as the Radeon HD 6320 (1. generation Zacate).

AMD E-Series:
E2-1800: Dual Core low power processor with an integrated graphics cards. The processor is on a level with Celeron SU2300 (1.2 GHz) and the GPU part about as fast as an Nvidia ION (2).
Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
3612QM: An Ivy Bridge-based quad-core processor clocked at 2.1 GHz with Turbo Boost support up to 3.1 GHz. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4000 GPU running at 650-1100 MHz on a dual channel DDR3 memory controller. The speciality of the i7-3612QM is the low TDP of 35 Watt compared to 45 Watt of the other Ivy Bridge quad core CPUs (e.g. 3610QM).
3632QM: An Ivy Bridge-based quad-core processor clocked at 2.2 GHz with Turbo Boost support up to 3.2 GHz. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4000 GPU and a dual channel DDR3 memory controller. The speciality of the i7-3632QM is the low TDP of 35 Watt compared to 45 Watt of the other Ivy Bridge quad core CPUs (e.g. 3610QM).

14.00:
14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.
In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.

1.3 kg:
3.2 kg:
A laptop with this weight is comparatively heavy and less designed for mobility than for use at the desk. Therefore, the devices tend to shine less with battery life than with a large screen and higher performance.
74.5%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
