Skullcandy launches Crusher PLYR 720 gaming headset with heavy bass and open-back acoustics

Skullcandy is expanding its gaming headset portfolio with an update to its Crusher PLYR lineup. The Crusher PLYR 720 brings some new features and meaningful upgrades over the originals from 2022. Interestingly, the new model has an open-back design accompanied by the patent thumping bass that the Crusher lineup is known for. There are two models of the Crusher PLYR 720, one designed for Xbox and the other allowing multi-platform connectivity.

For an immersive gaming experience, the Crusher PLYR 720 gaming headset comes with Enhanced Sound Perception (ESP) and THX Spatial audio with head tracking. With the multi-sensor bass technology, Skullcandy says the explosions in games hit harder, engines sounds are deeper, and every impact has a thump that courses through the body. They have an open-back design allowing for a more open and natural sound stage. There are 40mm drivers powering the Skullcandy Crusher PLYR 720.

The headset uses ultra-soft memory foam, heat absorbing ear cushions, and a suspension headband for comfort during long gaming sessions. Speaking of which, the Crusher PLYR 720 is rated for 48 hours of runtime on 2.4 GHz mode and 38 hours on 2.4 GHz with Bluetooth connected at the same time. The headset supports dual wireless audio streaming. It also has multi-platform connectivity and works with PC, mobile, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox (the Xbox model).

The Skull-HQ app allows for customizing the EQ, adjusting Sidetone, output and incoming chat audio, and more. The removable boom mic is uni-directional and has Clear Voice Smart Mic support with an LED to show mic status. The headset weighs 354.2 grams which is on the heavier side.

Skullcandy Crusher PLYR 720 price and availability

The Crusher PLYR 720 is priced at $260 putting it in the premium range of gaming headsets. It is available on Amazon and the Skullcandy website. There are two models, one with multi-platform support and the other designed to work with Xbox wirelessly. With a wired connection, both models will work with all supported devices but the multi-platform version does not work with Xbox consoles via the 2.4 GHz connection.
