Sketchy alleged Huawei P50 Pro+ camera samples claim a groundbreaking 200x zoom
Huawei typically releases its P-series of phones for the year around April. The company is taking its sweet time with the next iteration in the lineup, the Huawei P50 series, however. Images alleged to be camera samples from what should logically be the Huawei P50 Pro+ have now leaked online.
As posted by tipster @RODENT950, the images capture a landscape, and appear to depict long-range zoom of up to 200x. This has been widely touted for the Huawei P50 series, so isn't news at this point. It would make the device in question the most zoom-capable smartphone yet, with the closest contender being Xiaomi and its lackluster 120x zoom as seen on the Mi 11 Ultra.
The images themselves are, well...suspect. For one, the 1x zoom photo doesn't at all look like an image shot on a premium device's main camera. The distance between the zoom ranges fails to inspire confidence either, with the second image not looking anything like what one would expect from a 50x zoom as claimed on the images. The quality of the images themselves leaves a lot to be desired, too.
All said, it's easy to chalk this off as a fake leak. It's incredibly unlikely that this was shot on a Huawei P50 phone at all. Even if it were, the images only manage to do a bad job, with shots from existing flagship phones like the Galaxy S21 Ultra already being considerably better. Actual camera samples from the Huawei P50 lineup will surface eventually; we'll all just have to wait a bit more.
