The Huawei P50 series will be one of the most unusual looking to hit the market in 2021. We’ve already seen the seemingly oversized lenses on the previously leaked P50 Pro, but this is the first time we’ve seen detailed renders of the P50. They were created by Waqar Khan who used leaked schematics and rumors about the upcoming handset and captures some key differences between it and the Pro model.
While the Huawei P50 Pro model apparently features some of the largest lenses ever seen on the rear of a smartphone, the regular P50 model echoes the overall look, but incorporates more standard sized lenses into its design -- not dissimilar in approach to the P50 Pro+. It seems as though Huawei has wisely tried to keep costs down by using the same rear camera cutout on all the P50 models, but is using them to house different camera systems. At the same time, it still seems likely that Huawei will continue its partnership with Leica to help fine tune overall camera system performance on both devices.
In terms of what can be found behind the four lenses of the Huawei P50, we’re hearing it’s three will be the standard wide, ultra-wide and non-periscope telephoto. The fourth sensor could be a monochrome type, macro type or depth type. All of this is said to be powered by the last of Huawei’s HiSilicon Kirin 9000 SoCs which use Arm’s 2019 Cortex-A77 design for its four high-performance cores. However, it is fabricated on a 5nm process and features and integrated 5G modem. Following news of delays to the launch of the P50 series which was originally expected last month, a launch somewhere between now and June is the current thinking.
