Seiko's new limited-edition Prospex watch now officially live for preorder

Seiko is keeping 2,000 of the 4,500 Prospex 1965 Heritage Divers for Japan; preorders for that allocation opened this week on the company's Japanese online store, after launching recently.

The figure works out at 44 percent of the global run specifically allocated for a single market. The Japanese reference is HBC011J, compared to the HBC011J1 sold internationally, which ins't like Seiko's habit of splitting references based on region. It is listed at ¥199,100 (~$1,243) including consumption tax, with free shipping, free gift wrapping and a three-year warranty.

Preorders have opened outside Japan as well. Seiko's European boutique has the HBC011J1 at €1,500 including taxes, below the €1,550 quoted at announcement, with delivery given only as October 2026. The bracelet ships at 21 cm.

It's interesting to see that delivery dates differ by market here. Seiko's UK boutique says 1 October; the Japanese store gives 9 October, while the European listing has no date beyond the month. The Japanese page also specifically adds that buyers cannot specify a delivery date or time.

The dial is the entire point of the watch. Seiko hosted a month-long global vote in July 2025 with four seascapes, one for each stage of daylight, from Sunrise Orange through Daytime Blue and Late Afternoon Green to Sunset Red. Daytime Blue won. Seiko has since confirmed on the Japanese product page that it has no plans to produce the other three.

The winning design sporst a bright turquoise embossed wave dial with a matching bezel insert. Seiko says the color shifts with the angle of the light while remaining legible underwater and in the dark. The embossed pattern is a direct reference to the wave mark Seiko has engraved on diver casebacks since 1975.

The watch is based on the standard 1965 Heritage Diver platform, which Seiko has left alone. The steel case measures 40 mm across and 13 mm thick with a super-hard coating, under curved sapphire with internal anti-reflective treatment. A screw-down crown and solid caseback give 300 m water resistance, and the applied indices and hands are coated with Lumibrite. The date window is between four and five o'clock.

The automatic caliber 6R55 runs at 3 Hz with 24 jewels and a 72-hour power reserve, rated to minus 15 and plus 25 seconds a day. It arrived in 2023 as an extension of Seiko's 6R line.
