Ninebot is a privately held company headquartered in Beijing, China that acquired Segway (based in Bedford, US) in 2015. At its latest event today, Segway unveiled the ZT3 Pro electric scooter and the Xyber electric bike.
The ZT3 Pro will target mostly urban riders. With a starting price of 3,399 yuan (around $468 USD), it has a travel range of up to 40 kilometers (25 miles) on a single charge. The 650W motor offers three speed modes, with a maximum speed of 32 km/h (20 mph). Safety features include a combination of front disc brake and rear disc brake with electronic braking assistance.
The ZT3 Pro has wide 11-inch vacuum tires. The scooter itself weighs 29 kg (64 lbs) and can support a maximum load of 120 kg (265 lbs). Riders can view scooter information on the 3-inch instrument panel Segway's latest offering also features keyless unlocking and the ability to receive over-the-air (OTA) upgrades. The ZT3 Pro could be a cheaper alternative to the Segway Ninebot KickScooter Max G2 E-Scooter (which got special praise for its hydraulic-suspension-powered handling in our review).
Some people prefer biking in more challenging conditions. Segway's Xyber electric bike comes with an 'off-road' label that will suit such people. The Xyber boasts a starting price of 9,999 yuan (around $1,378 USD). Its 400W brushless motor and 48V 30Ah lithium battery offer a range of up to 105 kilometers (65 miles) on a single charge.
The Xyber has a combination of double plate front shock absorption and a five-stage adjustable central rear shock absorber. Front and rear disc brakes ensure that the rider has enough confidence in their stopping power. The Xyber also has a 2.4-inch full-color dashboard that displays vital riding information. Riders can enjoy keyless unlocking, navigation projection, music control, and OTA upgrades, keeping them connected and in control during their off-road trips.
