Decathlon releases new version of BTWIN R500E electric cargo bike
Decathlon has launched a new version of the BTWIN R500E Electric Longtail Cargo Bike. The model launched in 2022 as the Elops R500E and has since been rebranded. This e-bike was first available in sage green and beige colorways, with an orange clay version arriving late last year. Now, the company has introduced a matte black version, and a sunflower orange variant is also expected to launch soon.
The R500E offers a front storage basket and rear luggage rack, which can also be used as a child seat. The e-bike has a 250W motor with up to 58Nm torque, helping you to transport loads of up to 170 kg (~375 lbs). According to Decathlon, the 672Wh battery allows you to ride with assistance for up to 90 km (~56 miles) when in Eco mode, reducing to 50 km (~31 miles) in Power mode; it is worth noting that these estimates assume the rider weighs around 80 kg (~176 lbs), the route does not include many inclines, and there is no luggage. You can use the LCD screen to switch assistance modes and view the remaining battery level. Other features include a Microshift 8-speed rear derailleur, Tektro hydraulic disc brakes and lights.
You can buy the matte black Decathlon BTWIN R500E cargo bike in EU countries like France, Spain and Italy for €2,999.99, the same price as the other colorways. The sunflower orange R500E bike is also expected to retail for €2,999.99 in these markets. In the Netherlands, the black edition is slightly more expensive at €3,019.99, despite the green and orange clay models retailing for €2,999.99. In the UK, the black variant is currently cheaper at £2,699.99, rather than £2,999.99.
