Samsung’s Ballie robot finally shows signs of life thanks to app leak
Samsung Ballie was originally unveiled as a concept at CES 2020, until Samsung showcased a significantly enhanced, more useful version of the robot four years later. However, Samsung has never confirmed whether the smart home robot will ever hit the market. While Ballie is currently just a concept, SammyGuru was able to get its hands on the first images of the accompanying smartphone app.
This is a wireframe, an early design draft of the app, and it’s not known whether Samsung is working on a functional version. The app features a modern layout. A large card on the home screen displays Ballie’s current status, including the battery level, current position, and any error messages. There’s also a large "Streaming" button, which presumably allows users to access the camera feed and remotely control the robot via their smartphone.
Below are a number of shortcuts that allow you to send Ballie directly to a specific room or area of your home. Large buttons at the bottom of the app’s home screen serve as shortcuts, for example, to send the robot on patrol through the house or to greet guests at the front door.
One image also shows the setup process, during which Ballie appears to navigate through the house much like a robot vacuum to create a map of it. While these app screenshots have been the first sign of life from Ballie in months, Samsung has still not commented on whether or when the robot will be released. Among other things, Ballie can respond to voice commands, control smart home devices, project a movie onto a wall, or function as a mobile security camera.
