Samsung is preparing to launch the Galaxy S25 series, with the Unpacked event reportedly set for January 22, 2025. While there have been mixed reports, the company could introduce four new phones at the event. That is, there could be a new addition alongside the three usual models of the S-series.
This new addition is rumored to be called the Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim, and as the name suggests, it's expected to be thinner than the standard model. However, the past reports didn't give an idea of how thin the phone might be, which Ice Universe, a reliable tipster, has shed light on.
The Weibo leaker reports that the Galaxy S25 Slim could be 6.X mm thin, meaning that the phone will be noticeably slimmer than the standard S24 (256 GB curr. $759 on Amazon), which measures 7.6 mm. Apple is also reportedly working on a competitor, which is allegedly called the iPhone 17 Air, and past reports have hinted that it will be 6 mm thick.
So, as it stands, it seems that the Galaxy S25 Slim may not be slimmer than the iPhone 17 Air, but it could definitely be thinner than almost all the Snapdragon 8 Elite flagships. Of course, such a thin form factor, if it becomes possible, could lead to a couple of drawbacks.
For example, compromises could be made to the rear camera setup, battery, and cooling setup. However, for the rear camera, Samsung could use the ALoP technology, which reduces the thickness and size of the camera bump. If this stands true, even with the thin design, the Galaxy S25 Slim may still have a capable camera configuration.
