Samsung Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus and Galaxy S24 Ultra to launch with brighter and LTPO AMOLED displays
It seems as though Android OEMs will use their next flagship smartphones to target new high peak brightness values. While Oppo achieved 2,600 nits with the Find X6 Pro, the company elected against releasing the smartphone outside China. Recently, Google brought the Pixel 8 Pro to market, which delivers up to 2,400 nits across its large panel.
Yesterday, we discussed the prospect of the OnePlus 12 launching later this year with a 2,600 nit-capable display, likely an evolution of the one in this year's Find X6 Pro. Supposedly, Samsung plans to join the ultra-bright party too, albeit without reaching Oppo or OnePlus levels. Instead, Samsung is said to be sourcing Samsung Display M13 panels for the entire Galaxy S24 series, which will be capable of delivering 2,500 nits peak brightness when viewing HDR content.
For context, the current Galaxy S23 series reaches 1,750 nits across the board. In other words, their successors may be upwards of 43% brighter in certain conditions. Additionally, it is claimed that Samsung will equip the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus and Galaxy S24 Ultra with LTPO backplanes as well for variable refresh rates; until now, Samsung has only offered this hardware on its Ultra smartphones. Currently, Samsung is expected to introduce the Galaxy S24 series in January 2024, possibly in San Francisco.
