Samsung introduced the Galaxy Buds2 Pro at its Unpacked event today. The Galaxy Buds2 Pro features improved ANC over the Buds2 and comes with IPX7 protection and support for Samsung's proprietary Seamless Hi-Fi codec for 24-bit audio. The Buds2 Pro are also slated to offer improved battery runtimes and can better distinguish between noise and human voices.

In addition to the Galaxy Watch5 series, Galaxy Z Flip4, and the Galaxy Z Fold4, Samsung also introduced the Galaxy Buds2 Pro at its Unpacked event today. We were generally impressed by the performance of the original Buds2 with its support for decent active noise cancelation (ANC) and good audio quality. However, the Galaxy Buds2 faced criticism with respect to reduced audio quality in loud environments and the concerns regarding ear infections.

The new Galaxy Buds2 Pro hopefully addresses some of these concerns. Each earpiece in the Buds2 Pro features a 2-way speaker system with a tweeter-woofer combination. The Buds2 Pro supports Samsung's proprietary Seamless Hi-Fi codec that enables 24-bit Hi-Fi audio. However, you should pair the Buds2 Pro with a Samsung Galaxy device running One UI 4.0 in order to make use of this codec. AAC and SBC codecs are additionally supported. Qualcomm's aptX codec is unavailable, likely due to licensing costs.

The Galaxy Buds2 Pro features a set of three high SNR mics on each bud for ANC and ambient mode voice recognition. Samsung says that the Buds2 Pro is sensitive enough to distinguish between human voice and ambient noise. It can automatically switch to ambient mode and reduce media volume whenever there is human voice, thus avoiding having to remove the buds each time to hear human voice.

Battery life is another area that Samsung has focused on with the Galaxy Buds2 Pro. The Buds2 Pro features a 61 mAh battery (nominal capacity 58 mAh) in the earbuds similar to the Buds2, but the charging case now packs in a 515 mAh cell (nominal capacity 500 mAh) instead of a 472 mAh one.

According to Samsung, this can result in music runtimes up to 5 hours (buds) /18 hours (case) with ANC on, while turning off ANC can extend this up to 8 hours / 29 hours. Similarly, voice talktime can last up to 3.5 hours / 14 hours with ANC on and up to 4 hours / 15 hours with ANC off.

Also, the Galaxy Buds2 Pro features IPX7 protection that allows the earbuds to work under 1 m of water for up to 30 minutes. The charging case, however, does not come with this rating.

The Galaxy Buds2 Pro will be available in Graphite, White, and Bora Purple color options and will retail for €229.
