Samsung seems nearly ready to move on in terms of its budget Android smartphone offerings already, with a Galaxy A05 apparently poised to take over from the A04 soon. A device by this name has shown up on an independent testing database even though it has yet to launch, suggesting that it might be ready to lead a new generation of Galaxy A handsets into 2024.

The Galaxy A04 (4G/LTE) is one of the cheapest new 2023 Android smartphones from Samsung, yet still manages to pack a 50MP main rear camera and a 5,000mAh battery. Therefore, its successor might be expected to do at least as well, particularly as there is evidence that it is nearly ready to join its Ax4 forebears on the market.

A device with the product name "Galaxy A05" has been spotted on the Wi-Fi Alliance website recently, suggesting that this is indeed the case. It seems destined for at least 2 regions with corresponding model-number variants (SM-A055M and SM-A055F), both of which also have dual-SIM (DS) versions.

Despite this numerical upgrade over the Galaxy A04 series, the "A05 4G" also appears to be underwhelming in terms of spec boosts, as far as they relate to wireless connectivity, at least. It remains stuck on Wi-Fi 5, even if it may run Android 13 out of the box. Therefore, it also seems it will miss out on the One UI 6 fun on its debut.
