Realme V15 5G launched: Dimensity 800U-powered smartphone aimed straight at the Redmi Note 9 5G
Realme's V series of smartphones is quite wonky. Back in August last year, the company released the Realme V5, then promptly followed it up with the Realme V3. Surprisingly, though, Realme has now skipped all the numbers that come after and jumped straight to the Realme V15 5G which it launched today in China.
The Realme V15 5G sports a 6.4-inch FHD+ AMOLED display. Sadly, the refresh rate is capped at 60 Hz. Under the hood is a MediaTek Dimensity 800U, a 5G-capable 7nm chipset that has also been seen on phones like the Redmi Note 9 5G and the Realme 7 5G.
At the back of the Realme V15 5G is a 64 MP camera, joined by an 8 MP ultra-wide-angle shooter and a 2 MP macro camera. The selfie camera is a 16 MP sensor housed within a notch. Supplying juice is a 4310 mAh battery, with 50 W fast-charging ensuring that charge times are minimal.
The Realme V15 5G comes standard with 128 GB of storage, but can be equipped with either 6 GB or 8 GB of RAM. The former is listed for CNY 1,399 (US$216), while the latter will set buyers back CNY 1,999 (US$310). A US$100 premium for an extra 2 GB of RAM will likely be hard for buyers to stomach.
The Realme V15 5G is quite obviously aimed squarely at the Redmi Note 9 5G that was launched last month. Realme and Redmi have a history of trying to one-up each other in this segment, so that should come as no surprise. The Redmi offers similar hardware but is also cheaper across the board—starting at CNY 1,299 for the 6/128 SKU and CNY 1,499 for the 8/128 model.
