OPPO has announced a new version of the A93 for mid-2021. It has most of the 'original's' best attributes, a 5000mAh battery, 6.5-inch 90Hz (albeit LCD) display and 3.5mm jack included. The A93s also swaps a Snapdragon 480 platform for the slightly older, yet still serviceable, Dimensity 700.
Therefore, the phone might be a solid new option in the affordable 5G space. Then again, OPPO has chosen to keep the starting price for the device's single 8GB RAM/256GB internal storage SKU the same as that of the non-MediaTek A93: 1,999 yuan (~US$308).
This may have been fine at the start of the year when there were not so many option available in its general market. However, Realme for one has since released the very similarly-spec'd V13, which went for 1,799 yuan (~US$278) for an 8/256GB unit at its launch.
OPPO has at least updated the A93s' camera hump, in that it has moved the flash into one of its main circular modules, shifting an actual sensor off to the right. Then again, it still features the same 48+2+2MP shooters as in its previous variant.
Therefore, it would be interesting to see how well the A93s does on its July 30, 2021 release - as it would to see it on the global market.
