Recently, the brand POCO has reportedly started providing OTA updates to Android 10 for its first device, the F1. Now, it seems one for the February 2020 security patch level has followed. Oddly, it seemingly comes direct from Google, a service normally reserved for Pixel phones.

It seems the F1's software was adamant that a comeback after 2 years was not the only unusual thing to happen to the POCO brand today (February 4, 2020). Several owners of this device have claimed that it has received the February 2020 security patch. However, it did not come as part of the same phone's recent Android 10 upgrade.

Instead, it seems these users have been alerted to install the new patch level by Google Play. Therefore, the update is apparently being sent by the Mountain View company itself. This is also how security patches are typically refreshed in the Pixel series of phones.

According to a growing Reddit thread on the subject, the update is 6.3 kilobytes (kb) in size. Interested users may check for theirs by navigating to Settings -> Security Status -> Google Play System update.

To date, it is not clear if this new behavior will also be a facet of Android 10 on the new POCO X2, which as it turns out is a version of the non-5G Redmi K30 with no NFC for the Indian market.
