Phantom Blade Zero review leaks before release date, noting repetitive combat

While S-Game’s action RPG doesn’t launch until October 28th, a Phantom Blade Zero review already leaked. Uploaded and deleted before the October 26th embargo, Critical Hits awards the game an 8.5/10 score. The Brazilian site commends the fast, fluid boss battles, but the action can occasionally become repetitive.
A deep combat system
With the embargo ending a few days ahead of the Phantom Blade Zero release date, buyers will have time to reconsider pre-orders. Still, if Critical Hits is correct, fans who appreciate stylized combat and weapon variety won’t be disappointed. That said, some developer decisions may divide audiences.
Tested on the PS5, the combat feels responsive and rewarding as players learn to time attacks and blocks. Switching weapons mid-fight lets gamers find different ways to defeat opponents. They can also experiment with upgrades and resettable builds that suit diverse play styles.
Previews and YouTube videos have highlighted the stunning boss encounters. The leaked Phantom Blade Zero review complements these epic contests. Yet they unfold over several phases and could test the endurance of both players and controllers.
Should enemies be immortal?
According to Critical Hits, the skirmishes involving other enemies patrolling the Phantom World are more predictable. Ironically, gamers may miss these foes once they perish. Unlike traditional soulslike titles, S-Game doesn't have adversaries respawn after they die. As a result, backtracking through previously explored areas can seem lonely.
The review didn’t go in depth on PC or console performance. Some previews had raised concerns about unstable frame rates during intense combat. However, in Balanced mode, the reviewer describes smooth visuals on the base PS5 system.
Positive Metacritic scores should boost sales following the Phantom Blade Zero release date. On Steam alone, Alinea Analytics believes buyers have reserved around 500,000 digital copies. It’s also poised for success on the PlayStation Store, although a PS5 disc version won’t arrive until 2027.
