PS5 users can access GTA 6 up to 18 hours early on its release date with PSN workaround

A rolling regional midnight launch on the GTA 6 release date looks increasingly likely. As a result, New Zealand gamers could explore the Leonida map first. Xbox console owners elsewhere can resort to a trick to access the game up to 18 hours early. However, there is a way for PS5 users to gain the same advantage.

Launch timing

The PlayStation Store displays a countdown clock that hints at unlock times. Instead of starting simultaneously, some gamers will have to wait longer than others. With New Zealand first up at midnight, Videotech posted a chart showing corresponding times for various parts of the world.

Since PS Store regions often span multiple countries, pre-order buyers in the U.S. expect a staggered rollout. Relying on the workaround, East Coast residents can launch the Rockstar title at 6 AM on November 18th. That would mean 3 AM for fans on the West Coast. In Europe, France, Germany, and Italy are among the nations targeting 12 PM on the 18th.

Before the release date, Xbox users can change their location to New Zealand through the console’s location settings. Unfortunately, the process is doable but more involved for players with the GTA 6 PS5 version.

The PSN method

Synth Potato summarized the procedure, which begins by creating a New Zealand PSN account. Then, activate console sharing and offline play in the system’s menus. Fans will need a region-specific gift card to pre-order the title on the new account. Play Asia is a retailer international buyers have had success with.

Thanks to console sharing, players should be able to access GTA 6 on their original profiles after purchasing. The PlayStation Network prohibits using accounts tied to countries where a gamer doesn’t reside. Still, the company hasn't commonly enforced the policy.

Anyone not desperate for an earlier unlock time can still pre-load the game on November 12th, likely following the same schedule. Given the anticipated 210 GB file size on the PS5, it’s wise to download the files ahead of the November 19th GTA 6 release date.
