PS5 news: Sony says "we'll let you know" on pre-orders; DualSense back buttons adapter seems inevitable; concept PlayStation 5 UI goes dark
The PlayStation 5 DualSense live hands-on video with Geoff Keighley offered up a couple of interesting revelations, along with a good look at the controller itself of course. A good portion of the video was taken up by the journalist talking to SIE marketing executive Eric Lempel and the two got down to discussing the recent rumor in regard to PS5 pre-order details. Lempel made it crystal clear that Sony would ensure fans were warned beforehand when the company was ready to start pre-orders. “We’ll let you know” were the calming words given to ensure those ready to pounce on a PS5 pre-order that there will be some fanfare before the frenzy.
Another thing revealed in the DualSense video was somewhat more disappointing but likely more expected. The bottom of the PS5 controller had nothing interesting to show: no hidden triggers, no special buttons, no fancy levers. This seems to point to the likelihood that Sony will eventually produce a back buttons attachment for the DualSense controller, with an apparent recently unearthed Sony patent showing a wireless charging adapter offering such functions. The DualShock 4 controller got a special attachment for back buttons, so it seems the same will happen for the DualSense.
Lastly, gamers have been wondering what the PS5 UI will be like, with some hoping to get a glimpse of it in the above-mentioned video. While we wait for Sony to show the real thing, fans have been having a go at their own interpretation, and a recent one by “the Hacker 34” has been met with general approval. The fan-made concept PS5 UI has pinned apps and games, a clear notification system, and it gives users the opportunity to switch to dark mode if that’s their preference. Big things are expected from the PS5 UI, considering it will be a “100% overhaul of the PS4 UI”.
