PlayStation US has announced that direct pre-order registration for the PS5 console is now open. To register, fans will need a PlayStation Network ID. However, the process is a lottery as registering for direct pre-orders does not guarantee selection for the opportunity to actually reserve a PlayStation 5.

Sony and PlayStation US have offered loyal fans a way of registering for the chance to be one of the first to pre-order the upcoming PlayStation 5. Users can sign up to the register via the official PlayStation website by using their PSN ID. However, this will simply add the registrant to a likely large pool of hopeful gamers who will have to wait to see if Sony selects them for a PS5 pre-order invitation. It is not the start of console pre-orders nor is it a guarantee of direct pre-order availability from Sony.

A list of FAQs has also been posted that mentions that the fortunate registrants invited to make a pre-order will be selected “based on previous interests and PlayStation activities”. An email will be sent out before PS5 pre-orders begin to those who are selected, and these people can then make their pre-order reservations. However, even receiving an invite to pre-order is not a guarantee of success, as there will be limited availability and time restrictions – so as the FAQs state, it’s first come first served.

There are also restrictions in place for what can be reserved, and orders have to stay within these maximum limits:

  • 1x PS5 console or 1x PS5 Digital Edition
  • 2x DualSense wireless controllers
  • 2x DualSense charging stations
  • 2x Pulse 3D wireless headsets
  • 2x PS5 media remotes
  • 2x PS5 HD cameras

Only one reservation can be made per PSN ID and the relevant times for the PS5 direct pre-orders will be included in the email sent out by PlayStation US. Crucially, the FAQs state “PS5 console reservations will be limited to those invited to pre-order”, while the general public will get the opportunity to pre-order other PS5 products while supplies last. Apparently, “Sold Out” messages will be posted once pre-order stocks run dry and orders must include a US-based address for shipping, although the actual applicant can live outside of the USA.
