There has been a lot of talk about the cost of Sony and Microsoft's next-generation consoles of late. According to one recent leak, the latter will price the Xbox Series X at US$499/€499, while the Xbox Series S will come in at US$299/€299. Meanwhile, the same leak pitched the price of the PlayStation 5 at US$499/€499 and the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition at US$100/€100.
However, a German retailer has listed the latter for an extortionate amount of money. Otto has since deleted its listing, but GamePro grabbed a screenshot showing the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition priced at a whopping €974.79 including sales taxes. The only consolation is that this listing was for the 2 TB model, but this still would be extraordinarily high for a console without a disc drive.
While the price quoted is probably a placeholder, but the 2 TB listed storage is intriguing. This could well be a mistake, but there has been a recent rumour that the 825 GB SSD on the PlayStation 5 would only have 650 GB for games. If that is the case, then a 2 TB may appease some PlayStation 5 fans, especially as the Xbox Series X is likely to have more than 650 GB free of its 1 TB SSD for storing games.
