PS5 Slim already in some homes as live images of the new look PlayStation 5 console surface
It seems the holiday season has come early for some shoppers, as live shots of the new PlayStation 5 console variant (commonly known as the “PS5 Slim”) have already started appearing on social media. A whole host of photos has been shared by @phantompainss (via CharlieIntel and Reddit) with the gamer in question apparently getting hold of the PS5 Slim from a base exchange, which is the Army & Air Force Exchange Service department store found in military installations around the world.
Sony has been quiet about the official PS5 Slim release date so far, although a leaker has claimed that bundles will be available on November 8 while the console on its own will be launched on November 10 (in Japan and the US). But as can be seen in the images posted below, it appears the consoles are arriving at stores and even being sold. The PS5 Slim will eventually replace the original PlayStation 5 console and become the standard model.
It is clear to see that Sony has done a good job with trimming down the PS5, which in terms of size is most visually evident in a top-down shot that shows the original console and the PS5 Slim standing next to each other. The approximate base PS5 Slim weight provided by Sony is 3.2 kg (7.1 lbs.), down from the 4.5 kg (9.9 lbs.) of the launch base model, while the 2023 digital edition comes in at just 2.6 kg (5.7 lbs.), reduced from the 3.9 kg (8.6 lbs.) of the launch version. Prices for the PS5 Slim (see screenshot below for full list) start at US$449.99/€449.99/£389.99.
