Weighing 2.6 kg (5.75 lbs) and packing a 140 W RTX 4070 laptop GPU, the Alienware m16 R2 presents an excellent combination of portability, QHD gaming performance, quiet operation, RAM/SSD upgradability, and good battery life. As a result, we gave the Alienware m16 R2 a “Very good” review rating of 90%.
Going into more detail, our Alienware m16 R2 review unit with a Core Ultra 7 155H and RTX 4070 laptop card performed better than the CPU and GPU category average by a delta of 13% and 8%, respectively. This performance showed in gaming where the laptop played titles such as Cyberpunk 2077 2.1 and Baldur’s Gate 3 at 53 and 88 FPS at QHD/ultra. You can expect less demanding MP games like Counter-Strike 2 to take advantage of the display’s 240 Hz refresh rate.
Talking about the display, the Alienware m16 R2’s 16-inch IPS panel covered 100% of the sRGB gamut while offering 337 nits of average brightness and a decent contrast ratio of 1,153:1. The panel also boasts good factory calibration and fast response times. So, while we would’ve liked to see full DCI-P3 coverage to aid creators, the display is well-suited for gaming and media consumption.
Additionally, the Alienware m16 R2 managed 8 hours of battery life in our WLAN test and ran much quieter than the m16 R1. The laptop also packs plenty of ports including a Thunderbolt 4 connector.
