Origin PC gets bought out by Corsair, will now preload iCUE software on all systems moving forward
Custom PC builder and reseller Origin PC will now be under the Corsair umbrella as the Fremont-based PC components company has just announced the acquisition via press release. The exact dollar figure involved in the deal remains undisclosed.
Prior to the acquisition, Origin PC systems would integrate components from various manufacturers such as ASRock, Frostbyte, Samsung, HyperX, Logitech, and others. Now that Corsair is in charge, however, it's likely that most of these components will be swapped for Corsair-branded alternatives instead or, at the very least, push Corsair options more heavily than others.
Outside of the expected hardware changes, there will be some software changes as well. Corsair iCUE, which is the company's RGB lighting software akin to Razer Synapse, will now come pre-installed on all Origin PC builds.
Origin PC is assuring its existing customers that the company will "continue to maintain a standalone website and standalone offices" with its brand name intact. We suspect that Corsair will sell most of its enthusiast customizeable gamer offerings under the Origin PC name while keeping any mid-range offerings under the Corsair name instead.
Notebookcheck has partnered with Origin PC in the past and our relationship remains unchanged. Origin PC competes with other resellers like Xotic PC, iBuyPower, and CUKUSA.
