The Optoma HCPro-4400 is a brand new 4K UHD dual-laser projector using pixel-shifting on a 0.65-inch DMD chip. It features 5,000 lumens of brightness, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, eARC, and WiSA SoundSend support. It comes with a $5,999 price tag.

Home theater projectors have come a long way, with higher resolutions, better brightness, and improved color accuracy. The Optoma HCPro-4400 is one such new projector that brings these advancements into home cinema setups, with 4K UHD resolution, high brightness, and precise color reproduction.

The HCPro-4400 is a 4K UHD dual-laser projector with 5,000 lumens of brightness [ANSI lumens? ISO lumens? No data as of yet] and a 30,000-hour lifespan. The projector covers 95% of the DCI-P3 color gamut and 100% of Rec. 709 for consistent color accuracy. PureEngine Ultra is present to step up contrast and motion clarity, while PureMotion interpolation should reduce motion blur.

The projector uses pixel-shifting technology on a 0.65-inch DMD chip to achieve its 3840x2160 resolution. Without pixel shifting, the native resolution is 1920x1080 pixels, but the actuator moves the image rapidly to create a perceived 4K image. Pixel shifting differs from true native 4K projection, where all 8.3 million pixels are displayed simultaneously without artificial enhancement. The advantage of pixel shifting is that it allows for higher refresh rates and deeper contrast at a lower cost than native 4K projection.

For audio, the HCPro-4400 features eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel) support, which allows high-quality audio formats like Dolby Atmos to be transmitted directly to an AV receiver or soundbar without signal degradation. This translates to better synchronization between video and sound while reducing the need for extra cables. The projector is also WiSA SoundSend Certified, meaning it can wirelessly connect to compatible surround sound systems for multi-channel audio without latency issues.

Installation flexibility is provided through vertical and horizontal lens shift, 1.6x zoom, and keystone correction. For reference, keystone correction adjusts the image to compensate for distorted projection angles, which gives you a properly aligned and rectangular display even if the projector is slightly tilted or placed off-center. The projector’s throw ratio allows it to be placed at varying distances without image distortion.

Connectivity options include HDMI 2.1, HDMI 2.0, USB-A ports, an RJ45 LAN port, and S/PDIF audio output. ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) automatically optimizes settings to reduce input lag, reaching as low as 8.4ms at 1080p 240Hz, which also makes the projector suitable for fast-paced gaming.

The Optoma HCPro-4400 projector is priced at $5,999.
