As a content consuming device, the OPPO Pad Neo truly its great. It has superb battery life, a rich and detailed display, and a pleasing UI that brings the entertainment experience all together. The problem we have, however, is that it is not well positioned as a device that can be used for work too, which at R6 999, a tablet like this, really should. The fact that OPPO seemingly sells no branded accessories to pair with the Pad Neo is rather telling too, as there is no protective cover in the box, and seemingly no options we can spot online either. Added to this is the fact that it can be paired via Bluetooth to a keyboard, but seemingly has not been optimised for such an experience. Perhaps we are asking more from the OPPO Pad Neo than we should, but if a great smartphone is required to enhance your ability to both work and play, the same should hold true of a great tablet. As such, the OPPO Pad Neo is only successful on the play aspect, and not the work one.

If you’re looking for a house-bound Android tablet that won’t struggle with day-to-day tasks, the Oppo Pad Neo is certainly worth considering. Especially if you’d take advantage of the various ways to optimise the picture quality for reading, making the most of that book-ish 7:5 aspect ratio. If your Android tablet is likely to spend more time outside, then that 400-nit brightness might leave you frustrated and you’ll find brighter screens elsewhere.

Overall, the OPPO Pad Neo is a great budget tablet for those who just need one to be productive outdoors, but don’t want to spend too much money on a high-end tablet. At the price of PHP 15,999, it does offer great value for money since it can play most games, has a decent display, and more than adequate speakers. Most importantly, the Pad Neo can help you get work done. If you have an extra SIM lying around, you can even have it connected to LTE, and not be dependent on WiFi. It also has stylus support for those who want to draw or be creative. In addition, you also have the useful features of ColorOS 13.2. The only downside is that the screen isn’t exactly the best. With only 400 nits of brightness to work with, you might have a hard time seeing things especially when it’s really sunny outside. The 90Hz refresh rate might also be a factor for some. Not to mention, you don’t have the best cameras either.

For the price of RM1,399 – it’s one of the better entry-level tablets that money can buy now. But that is only if we look at this tablet in isolation. If we consider all the tablets that we have in the market right now, then the Xiaomi Pad 6 at the same price of RM1,399 with much, much better specs and screen. I know MIUI is bad in comparison, but for the same price – I still think the Xiaomi Pad 6 is a better deal.

Oppo Pad Neo
While the budget tablet market is becoming increasingly competitive, manufacturers are striving to offer more features at lower price points. Oppo is one such manufacturer who has entered this arena with its latest Pad Neo, positioning it as an entry-level model in their tablet line-up. Despite its budget classification, the Oppo Pad Neo does not compromise on quality and also boasts a design reminiscent of its larger, more powerful siblings. As far as its design is concerned, this device features an all-metallic frame with a minimalist back panel sporting a matte finish. While the design might exude an overall premium aesthetic, the reflective top part is prone to smudges though. It is also worth noting that despite its budget status, this tablet comes in with four speakers, enhancing the audio experience. Measuring just 255.12 x 188.04 x 6.89mm and weighing 538g, the Pad Neo is quite lightweight and portable, fitting easily into bags for on-the-go use. In terms of its display, this device has been equipped with an impressive 11.4-inch display paired with a 90Hz refresh rate. While it might not be the best in terms of brightness, the IPS LCD panel still delivers decent colours and vibrancy, albeit struggling in direct sunlight. While the tablet's thick borders may contribute to its design aesthetically, it may detract the users from the overall viewing experience. Despite its limitations, the Oppo Pad Neo’s display remains smooth for video playback and general usage. Talking about its performance, this tablet is powered by the MediaTek Helio G99 chipset and 8GB of RAM which is expandable via RAM Expansion. Having such processor, the Pad Neo offers smooth performance for productivity tasks and multitasking. In addition, the device can even handle gaming, with the ability to run games like Genshin Impact on medium to low settings. However, it is worth mentioning that heavy gaming does lead to overheating though, so adjustments may be necessary for a more enjoyable experience.
In terms of its camera setup, the camera system in this tablet is definitely not its highlight. Basically, it comprises of an 8MP rear shooter and an 8MP selfie camera which are suitable for video calls and basic photography. While the cameras produce decent results in well-lit environments, the low-light performance is still lacking, with overall images appearing grainy and lacking clarity. Talking about its battery, this tablet has been incorporated with an 8,000mAh battery. It offers long-lasting usage, even with heavy multitasking and gaming. Furthermore, Oppo's charging solution ensures quick recharges even when heavy usage drains the battery way faster than expected. In a nutshell, the Oppo Pad Neo offers a compelling option for budget-conscious consumers seeking a capable tablet for everyday use. Despite coming at an affordable price point, this tablet still manages to deliver a premium design, smooth performance, and surprising gaming capabilities. While it may not excel in every aspect, it provides excellent value for its price, making it a worthy contender in the competitive budget tablet market.
