Warhammer: Vermintide 2 - developed and published by Fatshark (2018) - is a cooperative first-person action game set in the dark Warhammer Fantasy universe. As the successor to Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide, it continues the story of five heroes united against the evil forces of the Skaven and Chaos.
Up to four players choose one of the five characters and slaughter their way through hordes of enemies in linear levels. Each of the five heroes can go into battle as one of four classes. There are a total of 20 playable classes to choose from - generally including warriors, archers and mages. Boss enemies appear both at fixed locations on the map and randomly. After each successful run, new equipment awaits, which makes the class stronger and provides even more replay value.
The main campaign is divided into several chapters, which can be played either alone or in co-op mode. Afterwards, heroic challenges await, which can become quite demanding at higher difficulty levels. Fatshark also regularly brings new updates to the game.
On Steam, Vermintide 2 has 84 percent positive ratings, which is very respectable considering the 80,000 reviews. The game is performing well on Metacritic, with a Metascore of 82 and a user score of 7.4, though it has faced criticism for technical issues, repetitive gameplay and loot mechanics that restrict certain items to specific missions. The co-op game normally costs around $28 . Until November 26, however, it is available with a 95 percent discount for just $1.49.
