Lenovo hints gaming laptops with Nvidia RTX 5050 won't be budget-friendly
Nvidia is gearing up to introduce the RTX 50-series GPUs, with the possible unveiling set at CES 2025. A recent report suggested that the company has reportedly stopped the production of almost all the RTX 40-series GPUs, and now, Lenovo's Product Manager shares that the RTX 4050 Laptop GPU will co-exist with its successor.
More specifically, the Lenovo Product Manager shares that the RTX 5050 Laptop GPU won't be replacing its predecessor. The company official adds that the new mobile GPU will be targeted towards the gaming laptops that reside in a higher pricing tier.
To fill you in, you can get a gaming laptop with RTX 4050 under the $1,000 mark, with some sitting comfortably at around $900 (MSI Thin 15 curr. $599.99 on Best Buy). While the Lenovo Product Manager hasn't shared anything about the starting price of the RTX 5050 laptops, it's safe to assume that they can have a similar price tag as the current RTX 4060-powered systems.
As for the new entry-level Nvidia Blackwell GPU, a previous leak hinted that the RTX 5050 Laptop GPU would come with more cores than its predecessor and could feature 8 GB of GDDR7 memory. For reference, the RTX 4050 Laptop sports 6 GB of GDDR6 memory and has 2560 CUDA cores.
Another thing to note is that Nvidia is expected to keep the supply of the RTX 4060 Laptop running because it's based on the same AD107 GPU as the RTX 4050 Laptop. However, it's unclear how long the laptops featuring the former will stay on the shelves, as if the RTX 5050 Laptop is indeed targeted for a higher price tier, the new entry-level Blackwell offering could replace it.
