Epic Games Store's free game section has been updated. As we covered, the storefront will be giving away a strategy adventure title this week. For next week, there will be a top-rated shooter game up for grabs: Brotato. It will be available right ahead of Black Friday, on November 28 at UTC 16:00.
However, like all the other weekly giveaways, this free game deal will remain active only for a short time, ending on December 5 at UTC 15:59. As for the game itself, Brotato has an "Overwhelmingly Positive" rating on Steam with over 80,000 player ratings, and it generally costs $4.99 when there's no sale in place.
Its developer, Blobfish, describes the game as a top-down arena shooter. You get to play as a potato armed with weapons, with the primary objective being to hold off relentless waves of enemies. The game's defining feature is its automatic shooting mechanism, making players focus more on strategy and movement.
Of course, you can switch to manual aiming, which transforms the game into a more traditional twin-stick shooter. Brotato also has a character customization feature, letting you choose between various characters, each with its unique set of abilities and attributes.
This soon-to-be-free Epic Games Store game is known for its procedurally generated levels as well. That means each of the runs will be different from the others, and the roguelite elements of Brotato add a new layer of challenge to each of them.
Brotato's cartoonish visuals are another highlight of the game. It gives a nostalgic feel of the early 2000s Flash games. This also means that it will run well on most gaming setups, including gaming handhelds (Z1 Extreme ROG Ally curr. $499.99 on Best Buy).
