Memory is getting increasingly expensive, while battery capacity is becoming cheaper and more compact. Lenovo takes advantage of this in its new Yoga Tab Gen 2, fitting a significantly larger battery than in its predecessor: the battery has a capacity of 11,000 mAh, beating almost all similarly priced tablets from major manufacturers.
Tough tablet competition for Apple and Samsung
The Yoga Tab Gen 2 costs US$ 599, for example directly from the manufacturer.
This puts it in direct competition with Apple's iPad Air 11 or the Xiaomi Pad 8 Pro. They are all very high-quality, compact tablets, so Lenovo has come up with several ways to stand out.
A true 4K screen in the Lenovo tablet
First, there is the screen, which is based on an IPS panel. This is good news for sensitive users, as we detected no PWM flickering, even at very low brightness.
The screen also boasts a very high resolution of 3,840 x 2,560 pixels, which can even display 4K content natively. This is not possible on many other tablets. Whether you can actually see the difference on the relatively small display is another question – but the screen certainly delivers a very sharp picture.
Long-haul flights without charging with the Yoga Tab Gen 2
Then there is the battery mentioned earlier, which delivers over 24 hours of runtime in our Wi-Fi battery test. Anyone who does not put the tablet under heavy load with complex AI calculations or other very demanding tasks should therefore be able to get through any long-haul flight with their Yoga Tab Gen 2 without charging. By the way, the tablet doubles the battery life of the Apple iPad Air 11 in our test.
If desired, you can use stylus input and also connect a keyboard cover via three pogo pins. Thanks to desktop mode, the tablet then becomes a capable laptop replacement complete with a touchpad, especially if you already perform many everyday tasks in your browser.
