Nreal has announced support for Steam on the Nreal Light and Nreal Air AR glasses. The beta will launch at the end of June, with the company claiming that it is the first to bring Steam into AR.
Nreal notes that the beta release has a less than straightforward set-up and is not optimized for all Steam games. However, AAA titles such as DiRT Rally and the Halo series will be available to play on an up to 200-in HD virtual display. Alternatively, you can access various games on the AR headsets via the Xbox Cloud Gaming platform through Nreal's Nebula browser.
The Nreal Light glasses are available in the US and are sold by Verizon for US$599. Customers in Spain and Germany can purchase the wearable through Vodafone with a mobile plan costing €16 (~US$17) per month. The Nreal Air glasses, a lower spec model, were recently launched in the UK through EE for £399.99 (~US$482).
In other news, Nreal has announced a hackathon, AR Jam. The company is offering over US$100,000 in prizes for the best app developed using Nreal's NRSDK. The app categories for the hackathon include at-home fitness, games and NFT. The deadline for pitches is July 7th, with the final submission deadline on July 27th.
