STEPVR Gates01 VR deck launches with multidirectional treadmill
STEPVR has revealed the Gates01, an omnidirectional VR movement system you can use for esports, gaming, education or work. The 3 m² (~32 ft²) cube-shaped device allows you to move freely in VR without worrying about bumping into walls or furniture.
A vest-like harness and a metal structure placed around your waist keep you in the centre of the deck, with your arms and legs free to move naturally. A multidirectional treadmill allows you to walk, run or stop moving instinctively and has been developed to minimize noise.
Laser technology accurately captures your position and posture, including your finger placement, and relays this information with less than 2 ms latency. The Gates01 comes with a VR headset with 4K resolution; you can adjust the lenses for short-sightedness (myopia).
The gadget can also help to restore your sense of vestibular balance and reduce the feeling of motion sickness that some people experience when using VR. The product has been compared to the “Oasis” device used in the movie Ready Player One.
The STEPVR Gates01 will be available to businesses in Korea, Japan, Singapore, the Middle East, North America and Europe in October. A version of the product for personal use will be released in the first half of 2023. This model will be reduced in size by 50% and made lighter.
