HTC has begun to tease the debut of a new device on its Taiwanese Facebook page. The product is to become part of the Viverse virtual reality (VR) ecosystem, even though it is also projected to be a smartphone. This possibility may or may not be backed up by an initial launch poster.

HTC seems to have pivoted fully away from its history as a smartphone OEM in favor of its virtual reality (VR) business instead. Now, however, it is rumored to be getting back into the mobile device industry, although it might attempt to bring the Viverse with it.

The company has set a date of June 28, 2022 for its next product launch. It will be a Viverse event; however, the silhouette featured in this event's first poster hints at a device with a form-factor much more like a smartphone than a headset.

Should it really be a mobile device, it is rumored to debut as one designed for advanced compatibility with Vive VR hardware. HTC is said to have secured agreements to market the phone through partners such as Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile and FarEasTone.

However, should that be the case, those collaborations might dim hopes of this first-gen 'Viverse phone' becoming available on the global market.
