Carl Pei's London-based Android OEM Nothing has just updated its YouTube channel on the subject of its upcoming Phone (3a) series of smartphones.
The 10:56 video provides a deep dive into the process of arriving at its final design, which has apparently resulted in the device currently thought of as the Phone (3a) Pro in its leaks to date.
The brand's first periscope zoom lens is indeed openly displayed in its box-like enclosure, taking center stage on the device's back.
The upgrade leaves the (3a) Pro's other 2 cameras and single flash to crowd around it in a manner almost reminiscent of Google's Material You motifs, within a markedly raised version of the camera hump also seen in its immediate predecessor the 2(a)+ (currently available for $389 on Amazon).
Nothing's design team has apparently chosen this look at the expense of other, more Pixel-like designs in order to save space and maximize novelty - although one of them might survive in the arguably cleaner Phone (3a) - while another might feature in its flagship counterpart the (3).
The Glyph lighting segments that surround the cameras in both members of the 3(a) series are also quite like those of its 2(a) forebears, although they are now touted to be more "granular" in this iteration.
The 3(a)-series' rear panels are to be finished in the same choice of black and gray as the previous generation, although their transparent covers are made of glass rather than plastic.
Either colorway comes adorned with quintessential Nothing "Easter eggs" such as more subway-map design elements and cosmetic screws - although the design team has also now strongly hinted at a new side button with an updated glossy finish in the impending mid-rangers.
