The Nothing Phone (3a) is slowly taking shape thanks to a ton of leaks and official information drops from the company. Now, Nothing has taken to YouTube and put the Phone (3a) against the iPhone 16 Pro Max to show what the triple-camera system of the Phone (3a) is capable of.
Nothing confirms in the video that the Phone (3a) packs:
- A 50 MP wide-angle main camera with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS)
- A 50 MP periscope zoom camera
- An 8 MP ultrawide shooter
- One 50 MP selfie camera
While Nothing doesn’t go into a lot of detail regarding the camera hardware, the company does mention that the main sensor has the “the largest Full Well Capacity” of any “comparable sensor” on the market. So, the main 50 MP shooter presumably features 300% of the Full Well Capacity of similarly priced sensors and is able to create “better depth of brightness levels” and “better HDR effects”.
This could mean that the images produced by the main sensor of the Nothing Phone (3a) will have an enhanced dynamic range and HDR processing than the competitors.
Nothing Phone (3a) vs iPhone 16 Pro Max camera comparison
Before we jump into the actual comparison, it is important to mention that a compressed YouTube video playing at 1080p is not an ideal way to judge the quality of the pictures produced by either phone. So, aside from the saying that both the Nothing Phone (3a) and the iPhone 16 Pro Max produce sharp photos in all tested scenarios, we can’t say much about the fine details. What we can judge, however, is the difference in image processing.
Right off the bat, it is quite clear that photos produced by the iPhone 16 Pro Max are less bright and more contrasty. The Nothing Phone (3a), by comparison, takes images that are brighter and lack the deep colors of the iPhone 16 Pro Max. The Nothing Phone (3a) also appears to take warmer photos than the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
In addition to regular and zoom shots, Nothing shows the macro capabilities of the phone. Unlike many other smartphones, the Nothing Phone (3a) relies on the telephoto shooter to take macro shots. The resulting macro image looks quite sharp but is considerably brighter than the one from the iPhone 16 Pro Max (Available “Renewed” on Amazon).
Finally, Nothing also gives us a glimpse of the Phone (3a)’s 4K/30 FPS video capture. The video has decent stabilization.
All in all, the Phone (3a) vs iPhone 16 Pro Max video, which is linked below, is a pretty interesting watch for fans who have been waiting for the Nothing Phone (3a).
