Last month, Redmi announced the Redmi Note 14 series for global markets following their launch in China and India. However, the manufacturer didn't reveal the software support duration for the Redmi Note 14 4G and Redmi Note 14 5G. Now, GSMArena has reported that details about the software update plans for the two phones have been provided by Redmi.
Citing unnamed contacts within Redmi, the publication says the global version of the Redmi Note 14 4G which ships with Android 14 out of the box, will receive four OS upgrades (up to Android 18) and six years of security updates (up until 2031). This is an improvement over the three OS upgrades and four years of security updates of its predecessor, the Redmi Note 13 4G.
Surprisingly, the Redmi Note 14 5G will be getting a shorter software support duration. According to the source, the Redmi Note 14 5G will only receive two Android OS upgrades and four years of security updates. The fact that this is even worse than the three OS upgrades last year's Redmi Note 13 5G is promised to receive makes it quite unusual.
Nevertheless, considering that the info is reportedly from Redmi itself, there's no point disregarding it. Hopefully, it is a mistake on Redmi's part and the device will get longer software support. For the pro models which include the Redmi Note 14 Pro 4G, Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G, and Redmi Note 14 Pro+ 5G, they are set to receive three OS upgrades and four years of security updates.
The Redmi Note 14 series still falls behind rivals such as the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G (available on Amazon for $199.99) which will receive six OS upgrades and six years of security updates. Hopefully, the Redmi Note 15 series offers even better software support.
