Nothing Ear and Ear (a) launch event set for April 2024
The Ear (1) became Nothing's first-ever product in 2021, and are now thought to get successors that represent the "culmination" of the "years of design and innovation" at Carl Pei's company since then. However, events leading up to their launch campaign have already taken an unexpected turn.
The wearables in question were projected to be introduced as the Ear (3), a direct upgrade from the flagship Ear (2) buds that went before them. However, while Nothing has indicated that they are to come in another transparent-effect package with dot-matrix branding, they will henceforth drop the distinctive generation numbers in brackets motif that usually goes with it.
This "stripping back" of its take on the typical mobile device industry naming scheme is intended to be more "True to Nothing" and to "center the focus around the product and the unique experience it delivers for each user".
While that seems as clear as it is going to get, it also introduces some doubt as to what happens when they are succeeded by next-gen upgrades in turn (and also as to whether they might actually be unveiled as headphones rather than TWS earbuds). Nevertheless, it is apparently the path Nothing has chosen (especially as it has already deployed its April Fool's joke for the year).
Nevertheless, the inaugural Nothing Ears are seemingly to be pitched at the same premium mid-range market tier as the Ear (2)s (still available at ~$130 on Amazon). However, they will be accompanied by the first-gen Ear (a)s, which are presumably intended to go with the new Phone (2a) rather than the flagship Phone (2).
