Just two weeks after launching the Nothing Phone 3a and 3a Pro, it appears the company might be ready to bring out the CMF Phone 2 as well. A leaked image on Reddit purports to show a hands-on photo of the successor to the brand’s debut smartphone. You can see the post embedded below.
The biggest difference is obviously in the camera cluster. While the CMF Phone 1 (read our review here) had a 50MP f/1.8 sensor coupled with a 2MP f/2.4 depth sensor to support portrait mode operation, the new device shows a third sensor off to the side. It’s likely we’re looking at the addition of an ultrawide lens, given that’s a common setup in this range.
The other signature elements of the CMF Phone can still be seen—the matte finish plastic, the CMF dial and the panel screws that help attach accessories to the back. This should mean that those accessories will remain compatible with the new phone.
The post is not accompanied by any other details, technical or otherwise. Prior rumours had indicated that we could expect to see Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 SoC in the CMF Phone 2, but those reports included the Nothing Phone 3a (now $399 on Amazon) and 3a Pro which, as we now know, do indeed both feature that chip.
Nothing has previously kept the CMF Phone 1 (curr. $289 on Amazon) a step behind the Nothing Phone 2a, giving it the Dimensity 7300 chip instead of the higher performing Dimensity 7200 Pro/Ultra, so it’ll be an interesting strategy change, though an unlikely one, if they bring the budget brand to the higher performance level.
