The CMF Phone 1 only has a handful of official cases and accessories, but more are expected to be released in the future. Here are a couple of case and accessories that would be nice to see get made.

The CMF Phone 1 (available on Amazon.de for €202) was unveiled a few days ago, and for a phone that costs just $199, it has made a big splash. While in part to its specs, the unique selling point of the new budget Android phone is the replaceable rear panel and accessories that work with it. To sum it up nicely, the CMF Phone 1 is a splash of color in an industry where many believe phones have peaked in terms of design.

CMF by Nothing only offers a handful of replaceable cases and accessories for now, but it is expected that more will be released in the future. While some may be official accessories, a fair share will be made by third-party accessory makers considering Nothing has published documentation to help people get started on development. While we wait for that to happen, here are four cases and accessories I would love to see made for the CMF Phone 1:

1. Wood/Bamboo case

In addition to the black case that covers the back of the CMF Phone 1, buyers can pick up an extra case in blue, light green, and orange. However, as cool as these cases are, there’s just a premium look that can only be achieved when you slap a wooden or bamboo case on the back of a phone. The photo above of the OnePlus 2 with a rosewood back cover and a bamboo cover is a perfect example. Hopefully, someone will make a wood/bamboo case for the CMF Phone 1, too.

2. Rugged case

The CMF Phone 1 has an IP52 dust and water resistance rating which isn’t bad for a $200 phone, but that doesn’t make it a rugged phone that can take a beating. Since the back panel is removable, buyers don’t have to purchase a separate rugged protective case that will add more weight to the phone. They can just buy a rugged back panel that replaces the regular one.

This rugged back cover should have (better) rubber seals around the speaker grille, buttons, screw holes, and charging port for stronger protection from water damage. It should also have textured sides for a stronger grip and reinforced corners to absorb shocks from falls.

Spigen seems to be planning to make an accessory for the CMF Phone 1 and it’ll be awesome if it is a rugged case.

3. LED selfie light accessory

Considering its price, it's no surprise that the CMF Phone 1 isn’t a camera powerhouse. It has a 50MP main rear camera and a 2MP portrait sensor as the secondary camera. Nevertheless, reviews say the phone shoots decent pictures and videos, even in low-light conditions. The CMF Phone 1’s camera will benefit from a camera accessory such as an LED selfie light, particularly for those who intend to use the phone for vlogging.

The fill light can be designed to attach to the accessory point at the bottom right corner of the phone or magnetically via the magnetic plate used for the card case. Thanks to the CMF Phone 1’s support for 5W reverse wired charging, the fill light accessory can draw power directly from the phone via an integrated USB-C cable.

4. Speaker case/accessory

One of the areas the CMF Phone 1 falls short is in its audio capability as a result of having only a single speaker which in itself isn’t very loud. However, with a speaker accessory or a speaker case akin to the Moto Z's JBL SoundBoost Speaker Mod, the CMF Phone 1’s audio performance can go from zero to hero.

What do you think about these cases and accessories? We’d love to read your own accessories and case ideas for the CMF Phone 1, so please share them with us.
