Nitecore has unveiled a new high-end model in its compact flashlight lineup called the EDC series. Featuring two main LEDs surrounded by eight smaller LEDs, the EDC37 can get exceptionally bright, while a status display provides information about the selected power level.

With the EDC37, Nitecore has introduced a new flashlight that is compact and suitable for everyday carry (EDC) but also very bright at the same time. The flashlight is quite short at 4.3 inches and fits well in the hand, but it weighs around 7 oz due to its robust body.

Thanks to a belt clip, it can be carried directly without a holder, but a lanyard can be attached as an alternative. A rather unique feature is the EDC37's status display, which distinguishes it from the round EDC33 and EDC35 models that we’ve already reviewed. In fact, the display and design are closer to that of the EDC2x series, but the highest model number (EDC29) was already occupied.

Similar to most EDC2x models, the display allows users to see the flashlight's brightness before actually turning it on. A half-press of the main button, similar to a camera shutter, preselects the lumen output. Options include 15, 100, 400, and 1,500 lumens. Additionally, a percentage indicator for the battery is visible on the OLED display as well.

Once the EDC flashlight is on, the remaining runtime is displayed. At 15 lumens, it can last up to 180 hours. In the highest continuous mode at 1,500 lumens, Nitecore advertises up to 7.5 hours, provided the ambient temperature is in the right window.

The highest modes of 3,000 and 8,000 lumens are only accessible via the second button. The display then switches to a "Power Remaining" indicator in the form of a bar. Both of these modes can only be used briefly, as the Nitecore EDC37 gets very warm.

A sliding switch can be used to lock the flashlight in order to prevent accidental activation. Technically, the EDC37 has two main LEDs, which are supplemented by eight smaller LEDs. The main LEDs are primarily responsible for beam distance, which is why the so-called "Lumin Shield" mode doesn't reach quite as far, even though its output of 8,000 lumens significantly exceeds that of the Spotlight mode.

Moreover, Nitecore’s latest EDC flashlight is IP54-rated, meaning it's not suitable for submersion in water but is protected against splashes, such as during a rain shower. Inside are two non-replaceable batteries with 14.4 Wh each, which is typical for the EDC series. According to Nitecore, the EDC37 is now available for prices starting around $120.

We are already in the process of testing the brand-new EDC37 and will publish our in-depth review soon.
