New update for Garmin Forerunner 965 brings a dozen improvements with new features and bug fixes
Garmin has offered up a new update for the Forerunner 965 (curr. $599.99 on Amazon), which has arrived alongside equivalents for the Forerunner 265 and Instinct 2 series. On the face of it, Beta Version 20.21 is a completely new update for the Forerunner 965, which was brought onto its first v20.xx build about a fortnight ago.
However, it seems that Beta Version 20.21 is a tweaked version of Beta Version 20.15. Specifically, while the former's changelog lists a dozen changes, these are shared with Beta Version 20.15. For some reason, Garmin Share is missing from the Forerunner 965's latest beta update as well, despite being listed in last month's changelog.
In fact, Garmin does not mention the existence of Beta Version 20.15 whatsoever in its Beta Version 20.21 forum post. Based on the slew of complaints about missing functionality and bugs that shipped with Beta Version 20.15, we suspect that Beta Version 20.21 is more of a replacement for its predecessor than an actual successor. Please see the changelog below and Garmin's forum post for further details:
- Added Device Settings Backup and Restore.
- Improvements to support pool swim workouts with pace alerts and critical swim speed.
- Improvements to the pool swim rest screen and alert tones.
- Improvements to race time predictions based on fitness level and recent efforts.
- Integrates the Garmin Run Coach feature into Garmin Connect app.
- Fixed lock screen vibration during sleep mode.
- Fixed map data field text truncation.
- Fixed edge case weather data display errors.
- Fixed calendar display issues.
- Fixed pool size selection in Garmin Connect real time settings.
- Fixed alert suppression during breathwork activity.
- Fixed various language translation errors.
- Fixed various bugs and UI improvements.
