A new beta update, version 20.21, is currently rolling out to some Garmin smartwatches. The changelog suggests that the software brings a couple of features, improvements relating to one activity and many bug fixes. However, it is unclear whether anything genuinely new is included in this release.

Garmin is rolling out public beta version 20.21 to Forerunner 165 smartwatch users. The changelog lists a wide range of new features, improvements and bug fixes. However, this list is identical to the one shared for update 20.15, which arrived in July.

The release notes include the addition of Garmin Share, a tool allowing you to transfer information between Garmin gadgets quickly, and a Device Settings Backup and Restore tool. Various improvements are said to have been made to the pool swim activity. Plus, there is a list of fixes for truncated data on maps, calendar display problems and language translation mistakes. At the time of writing, it is unclear whether Garmin beta version 20.21 has additional features or bug fixes not mentioned in the changelog, which would differentiate it from version 20.15.

According to a forum post by a Garmin team member, only 20% of Forerunner 165 users have received the beta update so far. If you wish to download the update manually, go to the Main menu > Settings > System > Software Update > Check For Updates. It remains to be seen when a stable version of the 20.xx software will arrive.
