With the Ninkear S13, a comparatively unknown manufacturer is launching a new Windows tablet on the market that is clearly based on well-known premium devices in the style of a Surface Pro in terms of appearance and design. Equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 5 115U, 16 GB RAM, and a fast SSD, the 2-in-1 is primarily aimed at users looking for a compact and flexible work device.
The 13-inch IPS display in 16:10 format offers a high resolution and ensures a sharp display in everyday use. The panel is well suited for office applications, streaming, and web browsing, even if it can't quite keep up with more expensive devices in terms of brightness, contrast, and color fidelity. The solid viewing angle stability is a positive feature, although slight halos may be visible in dark content.
The Intel Core Ultra 5 115U, which is based on a modern hybrid architecture, is at work inside. The performance is easily sufficient for typical everyday tasks, multitasking, and productive work. The integrated Intel Graphics also offers sufficient reserves for simple image processing or older games but reaches its limits with more demanding applications. The built-in SSD ensures short loading times and overall smooth system behavior.
One highlight of the Ninkear S13 is its versatility. Thanks to the integrated kickstand and magnetic keyboard cover, the device can be used as both a tablet and a notebook. The keyboard offers backlighting but is notable for its rather shallow key travel. In addition, only an English layout is available as standard. The stylus expands the operating options but cannot be attached directly to the device.
In terms of workmanship, the metal casing impresses with its high-quality impression and sturdy construction, which is hardly susceptible to twisting in everyday use. The USB-C and USB-A ports turn out to be practical in everyday use. However, users have to make compromises with the speakers, which are not very convincing in terms of sound.
Ultimately, the Ninkear S13 is a solid Windows tablet with good features and versatile application options. However, the device will only become really interesting when the price drops - then it could establish itself as an exciting alternative in the growing market of Windows convertibles.
The Ninkear S13 is available from the manufacturer for 859 euros (approximately US$1.010).
