A new Philips Hue COB strip light is rumored to be on the way. The company already offers various smart strip lights, including the Philips Hue Ambiance Gradient Lightstrip (curr. from $119.31 at Amazon).
A recent report from Hueblog.com suggests that Signify, the company behind the Philips Hue smart lighting brand, is working on strip lights with different technology. The Chip on Board (COB) method enables the direct integration of LEDs into the circuit board. This is said to allow a smaller gap between LEDs, so that individual light sources become invisible for a smoother lighting effect. Other benefits could include a higher peak brightness level and a longer lifetime. For context, the older Hue Ambiance Gradient Lightstrip offers up to 1,800 lumens brightness at 4,000K, or 1,600 lumens at 2,700K, with a nominal lifetime of 25,000 hours.
Hueblog.com does not note the source of its information. If this product is released in the US, it could compete with the Govee COB Strip Light Pro (curr. from $99.99 at Amazon), which was released in September 2024. Signify has yet to publicly acknowledge this new Philips Hue COB strip light. As such, it is unclear when this product could launch and how much it could cost.
