Classic contenders for flagship-killer phones are OnePlus or Xiaomi; until now, Motorola has not really been on the radar for relatively affordable phones that still offer flagship qualities.
That is set to change with the Motorola Edge 70 Max: The phone costs less than US$ 850. What does the Motorola smartphone offer for this price?
Aluminum chassis on the Motorola phone
First, you get a very stylish chassis made of aircraft-grade aluminum and Gorilla Glass 7i, which should be fairly durable and looks sleek. The available colors are Aqua Gray, a medium gray, Ice Melt, a very light blue, and Dark Shadow, a very dark gray.
Since the chassis is IP68- and IP69-certified, the Edge 70 Max can take an accidental dip in water without malfunctioning, and dust does not pose a problem either.
Affordable battery champion from Motorola
Alongside its high performance and sharp main camera, the device's main highlight is its large 7,100 mAh silicon-carbon battery. This makes the phone barely thicker or heavier than comparable handsets, while still offering significantly more battery capacity. For comparison: A much more expensive Samsung Galaxy S26+ has just 4,900 mAh.
With this large battery, the Motorola phone achieves almost 28 hours of runtime in our real-world Wi-Fi test. In terms of eight-hour workdays, the phone would last three and a half days of continuous use. If you also leave it on standby occasionally, four to five days of use is quite possible.
Wireless charging with Qi2
The phone can be charged at up to 90 watts, although you should note that no charger is included in Europe. A full charge takes just under 2 hours.
Wireless charging is also possible, with Motorola offering a new magnetic charger, the Moto Snap, as an accessory. Other Qi2 chargers also work without any problems.
External devices such as headphones can be charged from the phone's battery at up to 5 watts; simply connect them via USB.
