The January PlayStation Plus games include some of the most popular franchises on Sony consoles. God of War Ragnarok steals the show, but there are new and old titles worth downloading on January 21st.

Monthly PlayStation Plus games don’t always impress with headline-making releases. Fortunately, January is an exception, as Sony is offering several classic and more recent AAA titles. Available on January 21st, the mythical action-adventure God of War Ragnarok is the star attraction. Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name is a spin-off of the popular Japanese crime drama series that also deserves attention. These are some of the nine games Sony is adding to the PlayStation Plus Premium Tier, with two others part on the PlayStation Plus Extra Tier.

The God of War series has convinced countless gamers to purchase Sony consoles, starting with its PS2 debut in 2005. God of War Ragnarok has a particularly captivating storyline inspired by Scandinavian mythology. The game is truly an epic adventure, exceeding expectations for content and gameplay hours. With that length, some players complain about slow pacing, but stunning graphics and refined combat mechanics win over most skeptics.

Most Like a Dragon games are full of brutal beat-em-up action. However, the 2023 Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name introduces the optional Agent fighting style and plenty of clever gadgets. The game was originally intended as DLC for Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, which was released only a few months later. Consequently. some critics concluded that its story wasn’t strong enough to stand alone. Still, as part of January’s PlayStation Plus games, it’s worth a playthrough.

  • The remaining nine titles are:
  • Atlas Fallen: Reign of Sand
  • SD Gundam Battle Alliance
  • Sayonara Wild Hearts
  • ANNO: Mutationem
  • Orcs Must Die 3
  • Citizen Sleeper
  • Poker Club
  • Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings
  • Medievil 2

Until Indiana Jones and the Great Circle land on the PS5 this Spring, PlayStation gamers will have to resort to older releases. Indiana Jones and Staff of Kings is hardly the definitive whip-cracking game, with a lukewarm reception in 2009. Many criticisms revolved around imprecise Wii motion controls, but PS5 players can at least use standard controllers. For Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings and Medievil 2, gamers will need a PlayStation Plus Platinum tier subscription.

PlayStation Plus games are only available for a limited time, so act fast. Once downloaded, titles remain accessible for the duration of a subscription.
